A study published in the Saudi Pharmaceutical Journal confirms that Okra can prevent heart disease because it contains a powerful antioxidant. The study found that Okra is comparable to milk thistle and silymarin in terms of antioxidants and hepaprotective.

The study published in the Journal of Pharmacy & Science Bioallied states that Okra is effective in the treatment of diabetes. Tests carried out on mice, and Okra extract is able to normalize blood sugar levels and lipid profile in rats. Basically, Okra has long been used in traditional medicine for diabetes.

Okra also has anticancer compounds and is known to be extremely effective in the treatment of breast cancer. The researchers found that the lectin contained in Okra, a membrane binding protein, Abelmoschus esculentus (AEL), capable of pushing the death of human breast cancer cells.

Another benefit of Okra is the ability to fight depression. Researchers from the Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences stated that Okra seed extract is capable of acting as a mood lifter agents and antidepressants.

The main reason is its flavonoid and phenol contents.
